Do you know recreational water illness can spread like wildfire in an unclean swimming pool. Recreational water illness can lead to several ailments such as gastrointestinal disease, skin disease, diarrhea respiratory failure etc. In order to prevent the spread of harmful bacteria you need to clean your swimming pool periodically. You need not spend money to hire a swimming pool maintenance contractor, instead you can follow these five simple steps to keep your swimming pool clean.
Things you'll need
l A telescopic pole
l Leaf skimmer
l Pool brush
l Pool vacuum
l PH tester
l Sanitizing chlorine tablets
l Pool shock
Step 1: Skim the Surface
The first and foremost step of
cleaning your pool is to get rid of floating leaves and dirt. All you need to
do is attach the skimmer to a telescopic pole so that it is easier to clean
hard to reach areas. Use the net to pull out the debris, leaves, and foliage. A
skimmer can remove foreign bodies present in the water, this must be done on a
day to day basis to ensure that the surface remains free of contamination.
Step 2: Brush the Walls of The Swimming Pool
Once your done removing debris you
need to brush the sides of the pool and the pool ladder to remove moss. You need
to remove the leaf skimmer from the telescopic pole and attach the pool brush.
It is recommended to apply cleaning gel to the end of the brush for best
results. Brush the walls of the pool with some force. You need to brush ares
where there is no water circulation like the pool ladder. You need to brush the
swimming pool once a week for best results.
Step 3: Vacuum The Swimming Pool
First you need to choose a vacuum
which suits the size of your swimming pool. If you have a large size pool you
need to go for an automatic cleaner which also acts as a pool filter. However
if you have a medium or a small sized pool you can get a manual pool vacuum
which is cheap and easily available. A manual pool vacuum needs to be set up
prior to use. The vacuum head must be attached to the telescopic pole and
lowered into the pool. You need to make sure that all air is removed from the
hose because attaching the pump before air is expelled can harm the pump. Pool
vacuums are easy to operate and do not require effort, they remove debris and
mud from the pool floor. You need to vacuum your pool fortnightly.
Step 4: Check the PH Level
Some swimming pool chemicals will
help maintain the pool’s cleanliness, however the weather can take a toll on
the chemical level. You need to check the PH level twice a week to ensure that
your pool is safe to use. The PH level of your pool must range between 7.2 and
7.6 to remain normal. If the reading varies you need to add soda ash to
increase the PH level or pool acid to decrease the PH level.
This is the most important part of
pool maintenance. You need to check the pool filter to keep the area free of
debris. Remove all debris, grime and junk which blocks the pool filter and
brush the filter after adding a mild cleaning solution or detergent. Add
chlorine tablets according with respect to the volume of your pool, chlorine
kills all bacteria. Use chlorine to clean the skimmer, brush and pool filter to
ensure that they also remain free of bacteria. Add pool shock powder to remove
invisible contaminants. Pool shock is a pool cleaner which targets bacteria, it
is a concentrated anti-bacterial powder that should be used carefully.
